if gender is performative, and categories of gender, race, and nationalism are negotiated, and are mobile positions in a shifting field of power and meaning, as are all identity categories, and they all intersect and depend on each other for their meaning... does this mean that everything that i am, and that i think i am... everything that i identify as is false or not real?

so in short, categories of identity refer back to an original that does not exist... they just refer back to representations of representations.

which means that today's society- argued to be a world of exhibition - is where everything is a representation of some "real" but even the "reality" is a representation of what "real" is supposed to be. what is "real" doesnt exist.
