Chanel

I've been dying all day waiting for images from Chanel to show up on style.com.
That being said.. Chanel was... very Chanel. So kudos to Lagerfeld for keeping it that way.
I'm not too big of a fan of any of the looks. They seemed kind of lolita-esque, which kind of creeps me out.
BUT, let me tell you how much I love the looks that were on Freja and Baptiste, and how they came out together (especially the last image!).

Freja is SUCH a babe. I have such a girl crush on her.

chloe 2010

I kind of really enjoy these looks from Chloe.
Not so much a fan of the other lighter, more girly looks (minus the dress right at the top), so I didn't include them but the ones here are pretty perfect.

yeah..

wtf why is it that all of a sudden there are all these references to australia and australians everywhere?
and why does it bother me so much?

good question!

another (set of) good question(s):
Since im back in canada and no longer half-way around the world volunteering and speaking portuguese, will this blog go back to the way it was before i left?
full of wit and fashion and music news?
or will it continue to be somewhere you go to read about how much i hate my life?
will i post more outfit posts because now i actually have a wardrobe, and dont wear the same uniform of aa hoody, aa deep-v, and skinny jeans?

will i ever update my flickr?

does anyone even read this any more?

is the whole point of making posts tagging them?

consumerism

Even from the far corner of small town Quebec, without a credit card, without any income except for $15 a week, and a weekly expenditure of an average of $25 a weekend on booze, I still manage to keep consumerism alive.

Thank god for Paypal and international shipping.
I just bought this:

So cute! I'm super excited for it's arrival. I just hope it won't take 1 month and a half to arrive.. because I won't be here any more.

Shopping has become a distant memory for me. For the last 6 months every item of clothing I've acquired has been second hand - I do a weekly tour of all the second-hand stores in Valleyfield, and even in Manoel Viana, I managed to find a second-hand store (which is an amazing feat, since the town was so small, and barely had anything in it...) where I thrifted little boys button downs (actually if you think about it, it's kind of sad to think about - I'm wearing the castoffs of someone from a small-town in the South of Brazil... oh well). I don't think I'm capable of buying anything over the price of $5 any more. I actually balk at the thought of paying $5 for a sweater that looks brand new and has the tag on it here.

My host mom has promised me a trip to Montreal for shopping purposes, and besides the fact that I'm pretty much broke (or will be soon.. Halloween is on a Friday this year!) and have no access to a credit card, I'm dying to walk into an H&M, UO and/or American Apparel. (Let the stop-supporting-global-capitalism lectures begin!)

Out of the 5 pairs of jeans that I brought to wear on the trip, 2 are too tight and way too uncomfortable (I guess I did put on some weight...), one has several rips in the crotchal area and paint on it from digging, planting, and painting in Brazil, and one has a hole in it from falling off my bike. Someone purolate me some clothes please. I'm tired of fighting with little old men for plaid flannel shirts, little old ladies for cable knit sweaters, and buying mens undershirts to wear as dresses.

On the other hand, I will return home with the most impressive collection of plaid shirts and grandpa cardigans that Mississauga has ever seen.

The other day I bought a hand-knit, long, heavy wool sweater at one of the stores for $10. I wore it all weekend during mid-project, and at night I put a light hoody under it and spent the whole night outside by the camp fire, and I could not feel the cold even if I wanted to (this could've been attributed to the Fireball mixed with chai that I was drinking... but I really don't think so). It's magical, and probably the best buy I'll ever make in my life.

At least if I wanted to I could dress up as an old man for Halloween. It might be easier than dressing up as an 80s aerobics bitch, or a poutine...

Does anyone know what I can wear to cover my ass if I dress up as an 80s aerobics bitch, with my AA raglan sweater on top, and leggings and legwarmers? We all know how I feel about wearing leggings as pants...... RAFAY, I AM LOOKING AT YOU FOR IDEAS. Something that can easily be thrifted. I couldn't find short shorts at any of the thrift stores I frequent.

(wow, there are a lot of pertinent tags for this post..)

Frankie Magazine

Frankie Magazine always seems to have the best photoshoots.
The only problem is that I can only get issues intermittently... and they kind of cost a lot.

it's 430am

and i cannot sleep. so here is prt 2 of the boyswear post.

everyone needs a jacket like this.
I need a jacket like this.
Note plaid shirt done all the way up to the top button.
(image from the commodified)

No boys I know will ever wear anything like this, which is sad because this is actually my favourite.
I'm not really sure why, but it probably has something to do with the colours or the proportions.
Maybe the glasses.
Or maybe because he's from Televiv, Israel.

(image from borderline)

And for the less adventurous:

you can't go wrong with plaid flannel, if it's in the right size and not hanging off of you lumberjack-like.
(image of homme from chictopia)

or if you're really simple, white tee, leather jacket and jeans.
(you can leave the suspenders at home.)
follow through with any of the footwear seen above, or some high tops.
and accessorize with a swoopy haircut.

mens wear #1: If I was a boy.

Recently someone asked me to do a post on mens wear?
Why they'd ask me, I don't know. I haven't even done a post on women's wear yet.
I had no idea where to start, but I've always said that boys have it pretty easy.
Plus we all know that I am stuck on a particular type of aesthetic.
Anyways, I started searching for pictures and examples and decided to split it up into 2 parts.
So here's part one.
If I was a boy this is what I would wear:

Finally, a reason to use polyvore!
What a good use of 3 hours of lecture time.

To me all you need to do is to throw on a v-neck and some skinny jeans, as pair of nike dunks or plimsoles and you're good. Want to class it up? Throw a vest over your v-neck and trade in the shoes for a pair of brogues and a fedora. Accessorize with a necklace and a messenger bag/man purse and you're gold.
The addition of a straw fedora helps these outfits transition into the summer. Pops of bright colours in shoes and accessories are also good.
The outfit in the middle could probably be teamed with a pair of single pleat shorts (technical term for this?), cuffed and ending just at the knee and a pair of boat shoes. I'm thinking either staying with black or a light khaki colour if you ditch the cardigan.

I think I would dress better as a male.
But this is a whole other story...

Part 2 with some real life examples coming next.

(then it's less fashion and more art/culture/music I promise.)

M.I.A: no more music?

M.I.A is going to launch her own clothing line featuring leggings, bomber jackets and t-shirts, all featuring bright colours and bold print.
Not sure what to expect?
Just google image search her.

Collage [source]

Hopefully her leggings will be better than Lindsay Lohan's - although you can't really argue with the functionality of pockets and knee pads....

Also M.I.A. related, MTV has reported that she's looking to get out of the music industry and focus more on art.

So no more fly high like paper, get high like planes? This is sad!

There's no date or name set on the launch of her clothing line yet, but i guess if she doesn't make sweet music any more, you can at least dress like her... [source]

In other non-related news.. I hit up Value Village this morning (finally!) and was able to pick up the cutest flannel shirt, and an awesome blazer - both courtesy of the little boys section. I'm wearing them as cropped with 3/4 sleeves, and my mom tried her best to persuade me not to buy them because they're obviously too small, but i think theyre cute!

I also picked up a pretty old school camera with flash! for 5.99, so I went for a bike ride this afternoon with my brothers to this really weird sketchy bike trail in Streetsville to test it out. I'm not sure how well the pictures will turn out, the light metre doesn't work so I had to rely on the rule of sunny 16 and i'm just no good at estimating how many stops to go down and up according to light and shade variance. (if you can explain this, please help me!)

I also brought my polaroid, and got a couple shots with that. I'm on the 2nd box of my first pack, that means i only have 18 shots left! I'm seriously thinking about buying like 10 boxes off ebay for Brazil...

Anyways, I'll post pictures of the blazer and shirt soonish, and I'll scan the photos I took with the new (to me) camera as soon as I have them developed. There's also a post coming with all the polaroids I've shot this week (I'm working on a series.. it's still sort of in the works.) So stay tuned!

models/singers

So I'm sure everybody's heard and seen the trainwreck that was Scarlett Johansson's singing-career, and everybody is aware of the actress/singer phenomenon.
But what about the model/singer?
Can models sing? It's always weird to see/hear and model speak, let alone sing. I mean, I like to look at them, and their outfits and stuff, but to realize they're actually people and can talk and do stuff other than smile and pose is weird sometimes.
On that note (haha ?) here's a video from Five O'Clock Heroes, featuring none other than Miss Agyness Deyn.
And it's actually not that bad, in my opinion. I know she has a pretty hardcore accent, but it doesn't come out too much in the singing..
Anyways, here you go:

Apparently she's not the only one to move in with the model/singer trend.
We've got Irina Lazareanu's foray into the musical sphere, and Daisy Lowe waiting on a collaboration with Mark Ronson.

AND Kate Moss is apparently dying to get in on the action with Jamie and Allison.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/showbiz/showbiznews.html?in_article_id=563795&in_page_id=1773&ito=1490
All I can say is that, I really hope they don't let her on stage with them. Kate Moss is Kate Moss and all, but as I've blogged before, The Kills are pretty much perfect as is.
Maybe she IS jealous of VV and Hotel's dynamic.

Forever 21.

I've been incredibly cavalier with my money these days.

It's so horrible.
I was asked for advice on dresses one would wear to a wedding (as a guest, not as the bride) and all examples were given to me from the Canadian Forever 21 site.
I am not a huge fan of Forever 21, it was novel when it first opened here, but after a couple of months, the novelty's worn off. The store is always in a sense of disarray, and although you can find some things that are cute and their prices are right, a lot of their selection seems to be heading into the direction of other lower end fashion for cheap stores (i.e. Sirens, Stitches).
However, I've never browsed their site, and given the chance to do so, I took it and am now contemplating an order that would empty my wallet for the next month or so.
Forget being bad for your wallet, I'm horrible enough for my own.

So, the things I'm thinking of ordering?

This jacket.
I'm not incredibly sure how this looks in real life. I hope it's not that shiny.. but I've been wanting a leather jacket for soo long. (or faux, in this case). It's listed at 62.80, but everything's 20% off so it comes to 50.24 and you get free shipping if your order's $75 or more, which it will be, because I'm thinking of combining orders with a friend

andThis skirt, ever since I saw padthai wearing it on whatiworetoday2 on Livejournal.

Admittedly, I only want this skirt so I can replicate the infamous Luella look that inspired padthai's outfit..

But I am lacking in the shoes..
Oh wait, Forever 21 has shoes as well.

Please help me.

edit//

I've decided on purchasing both, after seeing how cute they look together in the shopping bag. =/

Its like an instant outfit.

This is so bad.

um wtf

No, your eyes do not deceive you.

Those are high-heeled Crocs.

I cannot wait to see you wear them, teemed with your cut off denim skirt, lacy capri leggings, and spaghetti-strap tank top.

OH SO CLASSY.

Comfort AND style, ladies. Yes, you too can have it all.

And all for the very affordable price of $49.99.

If red is too racy for your tastes, these beauties also come in a sophisticated black.

Feeling sassy? Maybe the bronze, or the two toned silver/lavender.

Out for a night in the town? how about the "chocolate/cotto"? You'll be a magnet for all the guys once they see you in these. Every man is looking for a woman who tries to mix trash and style.

I CANNOT BELIEVE THESE EXIST.
THIS IS LIKE TRYING TO MAKE TRAILER TRASH NOT TRASH BY TELLING THEM TO CLEAN THEMSELVES UP, AND AFTER 15 MINUTES THEY EMERGE WITH MORE LIPSTICK ON, WITH THEIR CLEANEST PAIR OF DENIM CUTOFFS, AND WITHOUT A CIGARETTE IN THEIR MOUTH, BUT ONE IN THEIR HAND AND THEIR NICEST LIGHTER IN THE OTHER.
IN FACT THEY'LL PROBABLY BE WEARING THESE SHOES.

Bad for your Wallet

I feel like I need these

they are so cute! they also come in black, green, and pink. But I'm absolutely in love with them in putty.

I saw them on everybodyisugly and she has now posted the links to where you can get them in each colour.
I am trying really hard to resist ordering them.
(It is helping that I am currently in class, and the whole back 2 rows of the lecture hall can see me lusting over them, while the prof eyes me, wondering why I am drooling all over my laptop. Gross.)

In the mean time, here is the picture that I stealthily obtained of Dorian's back from the Cobrasnake party.

I would also post a picture of what I wore to the yardsale, but Sasha didn't upload it, and has not sent it to me yet, so it'll have to wait.

Here's the pink version of the boot, in case anyone (Sasha) might be interested.

JUSTICE X SURFACE TO AIR COLLECTION

A couple of hours ago, I microwaved a Mrs. Fields cookie (white chocolate macadamia nut) to warm it up and get it gooey and yummy, but I put it in for too long, and it burned. It was only a surface burn in the middle, so I brought it upstairs and ate it anyways, and my room STILL smells like burnt food. IDGI.

Anyways music x fashion update.
Justice has collaborated with Surface to Air to bring you their love of leather goods, and awesome denim. (Surface to Air directed the "We are your friends" video..)
For the collection, Justice has designed a limited edition series of 3 jackets (150 pieces), and 2 pairs of jeans. The collection will be available at select locations worldwide including Surface To Air Paris, Surface To Air Brazil, Colette, Barneys, Lane Crawford, Isetan, Le Bon Marché, Paris Texas, Asylum, Le Shop, Incu. (Not to be found in Toronto or the surrounding area though sadly!)

Video Gamezz

In this completely unexpected piece of fashion news.. Karl Lagerfeld is going to make a cameo in Grand Theft Auto IV.
Sorry kids, you're not going to be able to make him beat the crap out of homeless people and prostitutes, though.
He cameos as a DJ on the game's K109 The Studio Station.
So you can cruise through Liberty City listening to some of Karl's favourite electronica and dance music (woohoo Glass Candy!) to which he adds his rapid-fire commentary.

Rebecca Turbow

Admittedly I was not a fan of Rebecca Turbow's designs when first introduced to her.
(She is Sasha's favourite designer).
There may have been one or two pieces that I liked from what I saw, but nothing memorable.
However, Sasha happened to show me this video of the designer's Spring/Summer 08 collection "Safe", and I am actually liking what I see.
(This might actually have something to do with the fact that it's set to HEARTSREVOLUTION's CYOA... which may have actually made Sasha die a little)
I really liked the jacket, and the reversible dress.
The second dress that the model wore with the white knee socks was also quite cute, as well...
The white coat with the green lining, the green coat (was it the white coat reversed??) and the last coat were pretty amazing..
Actually, I liked quite a bit of it, but it's really hard to keep watching and pausing the video to describe the outfits, because it's getting kind of hard to keep track of..
The only thing I did not like was the green bubble dress, and the white one after it.
Anyways, here's the video. Sasha linked it to me, and she also has it posted in her secret blog that no one knows about and no one can read, because she posts under an alias. So I'm showing it in a more public forum (kinda).
